As this will be BMW’s return to Le Mans for the first time in 11 years, there will be much fanfare. In the tradition of specially-painted BMW race cars and street cars, the 2010 BMW M3 GT2 car will have a wild paint scheme by world-renowned American artist Jeff Koons, with the help of the latest 3D CAD software.
The new GT2 car will be BMW’s next Art Car and as a tribute to BMW racing and Art Car history, the car will carry the number 79 in honor of Andy Warhol’s 1979 BMW M1 Art Car. It will debut at the Centre Pompidou art center in Paris, similar to what was done with Roy Lichtenstein’s 320i Art Car in 1977.
