As we have been following for several months now, matte colored cars have been popping up just about everywhere.

First it was because of vinyl wraps that were easily applied/removed on supercars. It was cool because the legit paint underneath was protected and the vinyl looked very clean and for a lack of a better word, un-vinyl-like.

Recently though, it appears that several manufacturers have begun producing matte paint jobs for their vehicles. From what I understand, Mercedes-Benz was the first to produce a fully matte painted vehicle with the E63 AMG wagon. Now, they have the 2011 SL Night Edition, BMW has been making a Frozen Gray M5 and some exotic companies will do just about anything, provided you have the cash flow.

With that said, it appears that this paint has reached its peak.

Today, 001 was at an exclusive event for the Rolls-Royce of cameras, the Hasselblad H4D40 in Hollywood when he spotted a matte black Audi avant.

Oh yeah, the camera -- with lens -- he shot these images with cost a menial $35,000.

But we want to know, is it going to soar higher or fizzle out before we know it?
