In the first quarter of 2010, BMW’s sales in China’s mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan doubled from a year earlier to 36,579 cars, according to media reports.

This figure includes sales from its core brand BMW and its urban Mini cars. BMW’s biggest rivals in China’s luxury car segment are Audi and Mercedes-Benz. In the first three months of 2010, Audi sold 51,449 cars in China’s mainland and Hong Kong, a 77% increase, and Mercedes-Benz’s sales was up 105%, having sold 24,100 units. In 2009, BMW sold 90,536 cars in China, a 38% rise.
