Ford had been the top-selling brand in the European Union for only a month before Volkswagen swooped in and got back its top rating.

Industry body ACEA revealed that the Ford brand exceeded Volkswagen brand by 1,298 units in March, selling 168,611 new cars compared with VW’s 167,313 units. Last April, VW sold 138,304 new-cars in the EU, a 7.7% drop while Ford’s sales plunged nearly 20% to 87,721 units. In fact, Ford was overtaken by Renault, which sold 99,642 units, and Peugeot, which sold 88,721 units.
