Before raising production capacity for the electric Leaf, Nissan Motor Co. CEO Carlos Ghosn requires hard sales figures. Apparently, he doesn’t think that the 13,000 paid reservations for the Leaf is enough reason.
After a ceremony last Wednesday at a Leaf assembly/battery plant, Ghosn told reporters that he is comfortable about maximizing the capacity for the model in the next couple of years. He said that before deciding to increase production, he is willing to wait for evidence that the cars are being bought. He said that whatever the case may be, he expects to have “constrained capacity.”
