US regulators will be checking out the metal-plated interior door handles of 433,000 vehicles after getting reports that they caused at least 88 minor hand injuries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the vehicles involved in the investigation are the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs. According to the claims, their hands suffered cuts when opening the door from the delaminating, or peeling, of the metal plating on handles. Some complainants described the injuries as severe paper cuts. General Motors Co. spokesman Alan Adler said that its engineers are cooperating with NHTSA. Adler added that GM will be probing the issue further before determining “the right remedy.”
