Because of the risks posed by a potential faulty tension adjuster pulley for the power steering and air conditioning drive belt, the American division of Suzuki is recalling 46,549 units of the 2006 model year Grand Vitara and 2005-2006 model year XL-7 SUVs.
The tension adjuster pulley possesses an outer portion that is created from plastic. Pieces of the pulley could break off if the plastic deteriorates due to repeated heat stress. As a result, pieces of the pulley could get caught between the pulley and the drive belt.
