With the recent 2010 Distracted Driving Summit, it seemed that industry and government were rallying around the common threat of distracted driving.

Several studies have pointed to the clear dangers of using a cell phone, especially texting, when behind the wheel. But today, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released a report claiming that texting bands don’t reduce crashes, throwing a major wrench in the works.

Transportation Secretary come out swinging with a firm rebuke for IIHS, calling the study “misleading” and reaffirming the Department of Transportation’s dedication to addressing this modern threat.
