Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said today he won't call for restrictions on hands-free cell phones or in-vehicle systems, such as Ford Motor Co.'s Sync, until the government conducts further research.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating whether hands-free phones or systems like Sync pose a "cognitive distraction" to drivers.
