As mentioned in last week's Detroit Auto Show story referring to the Cobo Center renovations, emerging markets are becoming key players in the auto industry.

Remember, the U.S. use to account for 16 to 17 million units. Now, although the market has been showing SOME signs of life, we're still off by several million vehicles. Considering our economy is not as strong as others, it is only a give-in that sales go elsewhere. Additionally, the recent events in Japan are NOT going to make an automotive recovery any easier.

And since the global economic downturn, emerging markets have been picking up the slack, particularly with exotica and luxury autos. That's why automakers with limited supply have shifted their allocation. The days of a plentiful amount of U.S. bound limited production vehicles are over.

The latest proof? Although we know that the middle east loves flash, they just opened up the world's largest Rolls-Royce showroom in Abu-Dhabi. Oh yeah, the middle eastern region makes up more than 15 percent of global sales for Rolls-Royce.

The United Arab Emirates are known for their love of superlatives, so it comes as no surprise to find out that the world's largest
Rolls-Royce showroom has just opened in Abu-Dhabi.

Located in the Umm Al Nar area of the city, the new facility was unveiled in the presence of Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös. The showroom has an area of 900 square meters (9,688 sq-ft) and can display five cars. The unit has an also new dedicated service facility, a coffee bar and a customer configuration lounge where future Rolls-Royce owners can specify their cars to their taste through a variety of color, trim samples and options...
