For 2011, one car that caught Agent 001's attention was the 2012 Audi A7. 001 has gone as far as to say that it is the next halo car for Audi.

The difference is this car is actually attainable for a lot more people than a $100,000 plus two-seater coupe. Since our head honcho drove the A7 he has been saying it's great, it's fantastic, blah, blah, blah. A large part of me was skeptical.

Now the A7 is being reviewed by other automotive pundits and it seems that the buzz isn't bad. In fact, it's quite good. One of the few writers we look to for a trustworthy opinion is James R. Healey of USAToday. Unlike others, he is fair and balanced.

Before he delves into the car, he prefaces with this: "First, the bib, because there's going be some drooling here."

The Audi A7 is such a machine.

It starts at about $60,000, and the test car was about $69,000. It seats only four to give what Audi says is a sense of exclusivity. It pretty much demands premium gas. Clearly not a car for everyone.

But those not put off by the price would do well not to buy some other sport sedan until they have a little time in an A7...
