The idea of a BMW sports car that does what BMW does best -- go back-to-basics -- sounds incredibly enticing. That's because it seems as though even entry-level vehicles are becoming a bit too much. A bit too techy, a bit too numb and a bit too uninspired.
BMW brought back its soul with the 2011 1M, so that keeps me convinced that it could continue down the right path with a product like the rumored Z2; however, there are some complications.
For example, should it be a front-wheel drive vehicle? How about rear-wheel drive? Ah, why not all-wheel drive?
There doesn't seem to be a right or wrong answer at this point. It seems that there is a bit of confusion or misinformation about BMW's plans at the moment, but feel free to weigh in down below...

Sports cars have never been the true forte of BMW. The 507, 503, M1, Z1 and Z8 were unloved loss-markers which only attained cult status (long) after production had ended.
