When it comes to the entry-level sport utility vehicle space, each vehicle has its own little hook. Just a little something that captures the buyer's attention aside from their relatively low prices.

Take, for example, the Honda CR-V. Its hook is Honda's reliability. For the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson, it's likely both vehicle's modern styling and attractive warranties. The Tiguan has a loyal VW following that adores carefully thought out interiors. The Mitsubishi Outlander? Well, that one I can't figure out...

Anyway, it looks like Mazda's latest product, the CX-5, is going to do something that hasn't been done previously: it is said the 5 will feature a diesel powerplant for the 2014 model year. In addition, it is a stylish product if I do say so myself.

I still remember being drawn to the concept first seen at the 2011 New York Auto Show.

With that said, if Mazda brings a diesel entry-level CX-5 to the States, will it have your attention?


...The CX-5, which a source said will be available with a diesel engine for the 2014 model year, will compete with such vehicles as the Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.

Mazda has yet to announce pricing and packaging for the U.S. market, but Hideaki Tanaka, manager of the CX-5 program, said the base model will likely sticker for around $20,000...
