Volkswagen is recalling 317 2012 Audi A6s because of defective side curtain airbags, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"Due to a problem in the stitching process of the curtain airbag, the seam of the airbag may not be stitched properly," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "In the event of a crash, the head curtain airbag may not deploy and will not be able to properly protect an occupant, increasing the risk of an injury."
Volkswagen said it is not aware of any injuries or deaths related to this defect.
Dealers will replace the left and/or right curtain airbag. The recall is expected to begin in January. Owners can contact Volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987.
