Thanks to our dear friend Fred Khaz, who is known for his great spy shots, we have an interesting story coming from the Far East.

According to a Chinese-centered automotive publication -- and a set of spy photos -- an Audi A8L has been spotted sporting some new badges. Though it clearly is designated as the 50 TFSI, the story suggests that this A8 will, in fact, be powered by the 3.0 TFSI motor.

As much as I want to say "That doesn't make sense," you don't have to venture too far to see similar, muddy nomenclature moves from other German makes, [cough] BMW [cough].

Anyone have any bright ideas?

Audi will start with the imported A8L and the locally made A6L. The A8L 50 TFSI is in fact powered by the 3.0 TFSI engine with 245kw and 440nm. There will also be a A8L 45 TFSI which is powered by a lower output 213kw and 420nm version of the same engine. What these two new names mean for the rest of the range is yet uncertain, we’ll keep you posted when new developments occur.
