President Barack Obama said the U.S. auto industry is building safer, more attractive vehicles.In an interview released Friday with a public relations executive for the driver-advocacy and insurer AAA, Obama said new fuel-efficient vehicles aren't compromises.
Obama has repeatedly touted the fact that the fuel efficiency increases set for 2012-2025 will save the average driver more than $8,000 in fuel - but he never mentions the fact that his administration estimates the increases will add about $3,000 to the price of a new vehicle over today's prices.
