A Canadian company that electrifies Ford Motor Co.'s Transit Connect is reorganizing under court-protection and filed for bankruptcy in the United States.

British Columbia-based Azure Dynamics, which has offices in Oak Park, has been installing the battery electric powertrain in Ford's Transit Connect since 2010.

The company laid off about 120 people worldwide at four sites Monday, including about 50 people in Oak Park, said Mike Elwood, a spokesman for Azure Dynamics. The company also had layoffs at its offices near Boston, the United Kingdom and in Canada.
