As much as I am a gearhead, I have never seen a Formula One race. Maybe it's because F1 races don't exactly happen in the New York tri-state region. As many already know, New Jersey's trying to change that by hosting the Grand Prix of America -- yet again, New Jersey gets boned on the naming of something [cough] New York Giants [cough].
If you're into the whole brevity thing, this is how it boils down. F1's boss, Bernie Ecclestone, has said twice in the past two months that it does NOT look like New Jersey will be prepared to host the event in time; however, he also has backpedaled and insisted he will have to come take a look again.
Obviously nothing is set in stone yet; however, it does look like this is firmly "up in the air" for now.
Fresh doubt has been cast over whether next year's Grand Prix of America will go ahead as planned in New Jersey. Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone told BBC Sport the race would "definitely" not happen, before saying that it would if the track were ready in time.
Race president Tom Cotter insisted the track was ahead of schedule.
But on Saturday, when asked by the BBC News Channel's Inside F1 programme if New Jersey would happen, Ecclestone said: "No. Definitely, no."
