Unveiled in the US market for the first time, Land Rover picked The Stone Mansion in Alpine, NJ to kick off a new life for it's flagship product, the Range Rover.

Known for its iconic, squared-off design, Land Rover isn't changing much in that department; however, there is a bit of softening out of those hard edges and I would argue MORE detail than in this all-new 2013 model than in previous Range Rovers.

I would analogize the Range Rover to the 911. It's an evolutionary design change and with every generation's refinements, it continues to get better and better.

Over the course of the night, I heard time and time again the reference to the Ford-like headlights and taillights. It's clearly the most controversial design element and given that there aren't many substantial changes from an exterior perspective, it's an easy thing to notice and target.

But one thing cannot be disputed. The Range Rover still boasts its strong profile and commanding presence.

It will be telling once we see this product out from under the harsh lighting and on the road amongst other vehicles.
