The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is upgrading an investigation into airbags in 2012 Hyundai Elantra cars and expanding its review to two new model years.NHTSA opened an investigation into the Elantra in May after receiving a report of an improper deployment of the driver-side curtain in a crash that resulted in a metal bracket in the assembly detaching and then cutting the driver's ear.
The incident occurred in Longview, Texas, on April 7, and the driver said the incident "sliced my ear in half… could have been neck."
