As I wrote about the devastation left behind post Hurricane Sandy last night, I touched upon one serious problem in the New York Tri-State region: getting gas.

People are lining up for miles -- literally -- and sitting on line for up to four hours. That's not including the time it takes to actually search for a station WITH gas in stock! A story that interviewed a concerned motorist had a quote that summed up the situation best:

"Getting gas IS a full-time job."

That said, New Jersey's Governor Chris Christie is trying to make lemonade out of limes and has put forth an action that will begin restricting the sale of gasoline by motorist's license plate numbers.

If your New Jersey plate ends with an odd number, you fill up on odd numbered days. If your New Jersey plate ends with an even number, you fill up on even numbered days.

Sounds simple, but is there a better way to go about this?

What say you, Spies?

As the days go by and desperation is reaching new highs, frustration is beginning to show itself as cold, tired and powerless families do their best to get through the next day.

New Jersey will be under a limited state of energy emergency beginning noon tomorrow that will restrict gas purchases by those driving  passenger car by license plate number, Governor Christie announced this evening.

The executive order only applies to people with passenger vehicles, meaning those walking up with gas cans are not restricted.

The restriction will be in place in 12 counties, including Bergen, Hudson, Morris and Passaic, and will mean those with license plates ending with an odd number can fill up tomorrow and subsequent odd number days.
