Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. has revised its 2013 sales objective upward. It now aims to sell "2.2 million-plus" vehicles in the United States, compared with 2.08 million units last year. Toyota had previously forecast sales of about 2.18 million units.
The revised target accompanies Toyota's new industry forecast of 15.3 million units. At the start of the year, Toyota predicted the industry would finish at around 14.7 million.
Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota's North America Region, cautioned that the past two years have had strong first quarters and then cooled.
"We don't want to get too far in front of ourselves," he said.
