I remember it like yesterday. Tesla was in the headlines for its questionable range. At that time I made it VERY clear: as no independent body had properly tested the vehicle, I said that I'd wait until Consumer Reports gave it a full test. Then, I'd make my decision.

Well, folks, that time has come.

And wow did the Model S bring it. Consumer Reports gave the vehicle a 99 out of a 100. That's sensational. Probably the biggest news in this test is that being an electric vehicle actually worked IN FAVOR of its test results.

As a user commented the other day, the Model S is emerging like roaches and to me its very clear why. It's a damn good product.

BUT, does this review convince YOU?

While I've read a bunch of CR reviews and I don't necessarily agree with ALL of the publication's perspective, I do have to admit it has a good chunk of the buying public's concerns in check.

There, we said it. The Tesla Model S outscores every other car in our test Ratings. It does so even though it's an electric car. In fact, it does so because it is electric.

Built from the ground up as an EV, this car's overall balance benefits from mounting the battery under the floor and in the lowest part of the body. That gives the car a rock-bottom center of gravity that enables excellent handling, a comfortable ride, and lots of room inside. Plus, it has a front trunk where other cars' gasoline engines would be, in addition to its large rear cargo space. This big luxury hatchback even seats seven, with its optional third-row jump seat.
