Looking at Alfa Romeo's technical specifications and plans for its all-new 4C, it's pretty clear that this is one automaker that hasn't lost sight of what makes it unique. When I hear, for instance, the production vehicle is going to be lightweight, I think the focus will be removing sound deadening or something of the like.

Not quite.

Did YOU know that Alfa is producing the 4C with a carbon fiber "tub" as we've seen with supercars? In addition, the Italian brand is so serious about weight saving, it will also be using lightweight glass. And it doesn't end there.

Other really interesting things Alfa's doing to cut the fat:

- The steering is "unassisted," meaning no power steering
- The a/c will remain manual because it doesn't require an ECU and saves weight

I can't remember the last time I heard of a manufacturer going to such lengths to keep a vehicle from packing on the pounds.

That said, I could go on for days. But rather than have me fawn over the interesting bits, click over to Autocar and see its full write up on everything YOU need to know about the Alfa Romeo 4C.
