Now the real question is can the gentleman keep his promise?
The reason I ask that is because while we've seen the company transform from essentially creating steel boxes to something a bit more droopy and soft, it still has yet to show us something poppy. I mean, I get the whole contemporary, Scandanavian design and all, but all the Volvos in the brand's lineup today are so forgettable.
The most out-of-the-box design was the C30. Of course the only problem with that product was that it didn't sell in droves.
When I look back to the history of Volvo, probably the two vehicles that stand out MOST to me would be the C70 Coupe that Val Kilmer drove in The Saint and the good 'ol P1800. And they don't just stand out, they look KILLER.
Aside from the Polestar S60, nothing really juices me up these days. And I am a gearhead. If I am not interested what would make the Swedes think that the ordinary citizen looking for something with panache will be drawn to Volvo dealers?
Hopefully the upcoming concept set to debut on August 29 is what the doctor ordered.
An imminent transformation is underway.
Did someone say Frankfurt? Stay tuned.
