Although we've heard rumors that Cadillac would be pursuing the large luxury sedans that are well regarded in the class — some examples include the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class — we weren't sure if the Americans would pull the trigger. Well, we can now put that thought to rest.
That's because spy shots of an all-new, large Cadillac sedan have appeared on the 'net.
From what we can tell, which at this stage isn't very much, it's clear it will retain a traditional sedan greenhouse. Though many of the front facade's details are obscured thanks to the heavy use of camouflaging, it appears to look like an XTS that's been stretched a bit to accommodate more rear seat legroom.
The latest thinking is that the vehicle will be inspired by two concepts we've seen over the years, the Ciel drop-top and the Elmiraj coupe that appeared at this year's Monterey Weekend — pictures of the Elmiraj below.
While that's pure speculation at this point, I will point out that Cadillac made a point to showcase the Elmiraj front and center at this year's 2014 Detroit Auto Show, which could provide a little hint at what's possible in the pipeline.
