AutoNation Inc., the nation’s largest automotive retailer, says it will no longer sell or lease any used car that has an uncompleted safety recall — a move that will require temporary grounding of at least 5 percent of its fleet.
The Florida-based auto retailer with 293 vehicle franchises — selling 35 new vehicle brands across 15 states — announced the new policy as Congress has debated for years whether to extend the legal requirement that recalled new vehicles be repaired before being sold to used or rental cars.
