Apparently, Bugatti won’t actually unlock your new Chiron’s true top speed, contrary to some online rumors. Bugatti, by way of CarBuzz, says there's no plan to alter the Chiron’s 261-mph limiter. While the car is capable of higher speeds, Bugatti doesn’t think the average owner will actually go that fast.
Still, the Chiron’s governed top speed is 3 mph faster than the outgoing Veyron Super Sport’s 258 mph. The Chiron will be slower than the ungoverned Veyron, sure, but Bugatti plans to unlock its new toy for a Guinness Book of World Records top-speed attempt in 2018.
