In July, at Portland International Raceway, I had the good fortune to be given the opportunity by Petersen Motorsports to take a ride in their 2004 Le Mans class winning Porsche. It was Media Day and we all lined up for our turn to gear up, and get in for the ride of our lives. You "sign your life away", select a helmet that fits best and await the return of the car bringing back the previous "lucky one". The anticipation is a mix of excitement and second thoughts of, "Should I really be doing this"? Well, this was just not my day, as the Petersen Motorsports/White Lightening Racing Porsche negotiated one of the last turns coming back to the pits it broke a half shaft and limped back in. My chance turned to disappointment, but being a good sport, I turned my helmet in and hoped for a better day.
