Hot future 911 and Boxster information
From Zuffenhausen
Dear 001,
Our friends in Zuffenhausen, Germany, (Porscheville) are in a bit of a quandary. It appears that the new Boxster and 911's are at almost identical points in their development and nobody can decide which to market first!!! If the new Boxster is released first (in 2005) the introduction of the Boxster Coupe a year later will clash with the launch of the new 911 (which is also a coupe) and Porsche are terrified of loosing sales. Conversely, if the Boxster is delayed a year, it is felt that it lacks a bit of performance and by the time it makes an appearance in 2006, there will be so much serious performance metal around, Porsche are terrified of loosing sales to competitors. This has of course come about because the marketing people decided to hold back the Boxsters engine development to avoid losing 911 sales. The problem is, other less greedy manufacturers have not taken this approach. Even insiders in Germany are now seeing the light and have realized that selling Boxsters is better than selling nothing. That really would be "losing sales to competitors".
