So you saw a Smart two-seater zooming down the highway. Small as it is, it really revolutionizes the age of extreme compact cars. But you wonder: how safe is it really? Top Gear experimented with two compact cars crashing into a concrete wall. Although both did well, the Smart had a more rigid steel structure, while the other did not. On a more positive note, it does impressively under low speed collisions, in which the Smart was up against a Mercedes-Benz saloon. However, the result of the crashes show us that these compact cars must be used with care when driving in high speeds on the freeway. Because although the car may still provide its original structure, passengers inside the car will not.
