Consumer Reports praised Ford Motor Co.'s new Fusion hybrid sedan, but raised some questions about two new electric vehicles: the Focus EV and Mitsubishi's i-MiEV.

Consumer Reports, the independent reviewer with 8 million subscribers, bought and tested three versions of the Fusion: an SE with a 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, an SE hybrid and a Titanium.

The magazine said the "hybrid's powertrain is very impressive. It's slick and refined and delivers competitive acceleration. Plus, it squeezes out an eye-popping 39 mpg overall — the best fuel economy (Consumer Reports) has measured in a midsized sedan"

But the magazine said it is "considerably less than the EPA test results of 47 mpg overall, city, and combined."
