One vehicle that's been undergoing some exhaustive testing is the all-new BMW i8. Though we've seen some concepts at the auto shows, we've been eagerly awaiting to see what BMW is going to do when this baby hits production. I am not going to lie, I was doubting BMW's efforts until recently.
That's because when I drove the prototype 1-Series with the three-cylinder engine, which will be first used in the i8, I was pretty stunned. It sounded great, had a sufficient amount of power and had that certain BMW-esque quality to it.
And that's without the other half of the electric components. Word on the street suggests the i8 will feature M3-like performance and I believe it.
But the real news here today are these spy photographs. These are up close and personal detail shots of the i8's interior. While it may not be clear at first with the heavily camouflaged interior, there are some interesting details that stand out to me.
Check out the M6 steering wheel. If it steers as good as the modern-day M6, I am sure we'll all be very happy. In addition, note the TFT display that will serve as an instrument cluster. Though it's not entirely clear what information will be displayed, I think a safe bet would be speed, power and the hybrid's functionality. Predictably, the infotainment display will be sticking out of the top of the dash and the center stack is slightly angled towards the driver like the BMWs of yesteryear.
