Now that the new GM is on track, plans for Cadillac’s next-generation flagship sedan are advancing too. Rumors were heard of a Zeta-based vehicle sharing Pontiac G8 heritage or an XTS-badged RWD sedan.
The latest reports are that the Zeta-based solution has been dropped and that the new flagship, which is presumed to be named the XTS, will be riding on a lengthened version of the Sigma platform used for the CTS. The extra wheelbase and rear-seat room necessary for a full-size executive sedan would be a remarkable change from the CTS. Production of this new flagship car is expected to start December 2011 while an auto show debut is anticipated a few months before that. The car will be built in GM’s Oshawa, Ontario plant, as will the next-gen Buick Regal and Chevrolet Impala. Already being built there is the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro.
