There is a flurry of activity gripping Porsche as the current generation Cayenne stops production in December and as its Leipzig factory prepares to build the generation Cayenne and Panamera four-door coupe. Porsche has been keeping the details of the next model under wraps and it’s likely we won’t know much until the model is revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.
The Leipzig factory will be modified to be able to take on the additional models and sources estimate that the restructuring of the plant for the new model will take 2-3 months. The platform to be used by Porsche’s new Cayenne for 2011 will be the same used by the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. There are rumors that the new Cayenne will be lighter by around 250 to 300 kilograms as the company will replace steel pieces with high-strength aluminum and magnesium.
