The last SLR units (SLR Stirling Moss variant) will soon roll out. In 1955, Rudolf Uhlenhaut combined the design and technology of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing” model with the main characteristics of the 300 SLR racing machine to create what is now regarded as the SLR legend.
Certainly, the news that the SLR (which stands for sporty, light, raceworthy) will be ending its run is disappointing. Throughout history, five variants of the SLRs have been produced since Mercedes-Benz and McLaren jointly started the project in 2004. These include two coupés, two roadster versions and the SLR Stirling Moss, which is a limited edition of 75 examples.
