BMW AG expects that the group will have a single-digit growth parallel to what the industry in general will experience. However, BMW is “cautiously optimistic” for the year 2010, according to sales chief Ian Robertson who spoke with reporters at the Detroit Auto Show.

BMW group sales increased by 10.1% in December but for the entire year, it experienced a 10.4% drop, which it says is “smaller than expected and ultimately relatively moderate.” Robertson said that the German car market as a whole would be “very challenging” in 2010 as sales could fall by as much as a million units.
