Chevrolet is returning to IndyCar racing so its engineers can take technology improvements from the racetrack and adapt them into street vehicles, General Motors Co. President of North America Mark Reuss says.
After a six-year absence from IndyCar, Chevy engines will power many of the favorites to win this weekend's Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. GM supported teams racing Cadillac CST-V, and Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro and Cruze also will compete in supporting sports car races on the island's twisting 2.1-mile street course.
But the emphasis won't strictly be on marketing GM through the old axiom of "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday."
