2007 Land Rover Freelander

Look closely – this is no ordinary Freelander. It’s actually the second generation Freelander, due to reach dealerships in late 2006, as a 2007 model.

Going under the new code name of L359, we believe this new Freelander will be riding on a variant of the C1 platform (now referred to as EUCD) – which will be shared by Ford, Mazda and Volvo.

The EUCD platform – currently the platform for the new Volvo V50 and S40, is also expected to ride under the upcoming Volvo XC50 SUV.

Flexibility in the platform will allow for the engine to be placed

transversely or longitudinally, allowing for front, rear or all-wheel-drive configurations.

Slightly bigger than the current Freelander and with availability limited to only a 4-door version – the next Freelander will be a tougher vehicle all-round increased off-road capabilities and drawing heavily on styling cues and engineering from the new LR3 and Range Rover Sport models.
