$184,000 Toyota Prius Extreme Tuning
Love it or hate it, the Toyota Prius is a boring car and the last thing you'd expect to see snagging trophies at a car show. But three Swedes with wild imaginations and a truckload of cash have turned a car with the personality of a goldfish into the world's wildest hybrid.

Claes Gustafson and the crew at Classe's Garage completely reworked one of Toyota's eco-wonders and gave it more video screens than the Super Bowl, more speakers than a political convention and a paint job that makes Amy Winehouse look understated.

It took eight weeks and $184,275, and by the time the car rolled out of the shop the only thing they hadn't modified was the chrome trim on the grille.

Saying Elvis Haeggblom and Kenny Kyrk styled the car is like saying Michelangelo painted a ceiling. No one makes a body kit for the Prius, so they used one for the Volvo XC90. They ditched the back doors and swapped the fronts for a pair that open like a knife. The back window went in the trash and the side windows were reshaped. There's a carbon fiber wind splitter under the front bumper and under the door sills. The rear end got a carbon fiber venturi. The car rides on an air suspension and 20-inch wheels brought to a halt with over-sized front brakes.

A body that wild needs an interior to match, so Haeggblom and Kyrk gave it a custom dashboard and a center console, racing seats and a 4,400-watt stereo system measured on the Richter scale. They managed to squeeze five subwoofers, eight speakers and almost a quarter mile of audio cable into the car and still found room for 15 LCD screens and a tablet PC with wireless internet access. Four batteries keep it all going.

I'm still trying to find out what is extreme tuning about this car. A body kit, some custom appearance mods, and an interior redo with a large stereo.

and????

To me tuning meand you did something to the engine, the performance (other than big wheels and big brakes), and the driveability of the car. It seems nothing was done so now people will have a chance to look at every horrid thing you changed on the outside of the car cause it goes by so slow. You have also created a Prius that gets less mpg than a Pontiac G8 GT (yes I know it doesn't).

I just can't understand the point of making a one off car. I mean I know its one of a kind and special. But when you do something to a mainstream car that others may be interested in, say the body kit. That interests people to want to buy such items for their cars, but they never see them because the prototypes were so expensive they cannot afford to make copies and sell them at a reasonable price.

Once again, tuning to me is performance modification, this is simply Appearance Styling.

you will be surprised how many cars at car shows just look fast and sick but lack performance...and then there are the cars that are just monsters in performance....alot of people just love to recreate cars and make them look custom and one of a kind not everyone looking to break the 1/4 mile times

Understood that people do things for speed and stealth and others for looks. But for me I wouldn't call it a tuner or tuning if it wasn't somewhat performance oriented. I enjoy a balance and wouldn't mind seeing something added to the car to at least help it with all the additional weight.

A total waste of cash, and serious lack of taste.

I wouldn't say they are horrible...but almost everything has been done before to every nice looking car out there...so now they are opening up there car choices to give them more challenges, but it really isn't going to get much better until they invent something crazy...for example verticle doors on any car, yea it is a cheap rip off from Lambo but does give a cool look to most cars when they are up and was something new to do to your cars....

All mods for smaller cheaper cars come from the exotics. Look at LED taillights which were in the Acura TL and 330Ci Beemers, now they sell them for almost every car aftermarket.

Look at HIDs from the luxuries, now you can get conversion kits as low as $70 online.

And whats the latest now. Those LED daytime running lights from the Audi. Came out on the R8 and then the S5. Now everybody wants them.

yea I have had Daytime running Led's on my 350z since 05...your a little backwards with that, most technologies put in cars are made by aftermarket companies first before they are made in mass production my Manufacturers.....Most cars now have hard drive navs, bluetooth, harddrives for storing music...back up cameras..onboard computers....I had installed in my 05 350z a Pioneer Z1 head unit which had all these technologies in it before the lux market had it...its touchscreen, 20g harddrive(for storing MP3's),Navigation, CD/DVD player, Ipod intergrated, Bluetooth, Backup camera, both sat radios, and this feature where I can get the speedometer and odometer showing up on it that is 100% acurate to the speed im doing

Not trying to brag, its just that luxury cars have all these technologies now that cost retarded money when I purchased that in 2005 for 1900 that does it all...

I understand that most show cars are all show and no go, but at $184K, this is hard to swallow.

Of course, I'm a little surprised that our Toyota Trolls aren't ridin' its jock yet.

Won't spend that much on a toyota. The price is a joke plus with that tag I could purchase a Lambo or Ferrari. The car looks like a damn pokemon ride.

I like Toyota for it realiability, but $184k + to sup up this Toyota "prius" is just insane. With that kind of money, I can get either a Lambo Gallardo, Ferrari F430, or even a V8 Vantage.

Even better, with that kind of money I can get a Red/Blue Lexus IS-F, White BMW M3, and a Red Audi RS4.

Looks much better! Although when I want to watch tv I watch it at home, and I would rather put my kids in there and get rid of the ridiculous stereo.
