I think the Acura MDX is going to take a chunk of sales away from the X5. But i still think the X5 is going to sell alot of these.

I'm pretty sure the MDX already sells better than the X5 because of its relative value and comfort, if my suburban area suggests correctly. The RX trumps them both, though, and the XC90 isn't far behind.

This is very, very nice. Much improved on the inside IMHO. Now the new comparison will be: X5 4.8i vs. Q7 4.2 Premium vs. GL450! Let the German war begin!

I've read through the new X5's "Product Selling Points" manual that BMW hands out only to their sales reps, but I got one.

The verdict? It looks like their setting the bar higher than the competition to once again become the new benchmark.

The new X5 outclasses the direct competition (MB ML-Class, Audi Q7, & Porsche Cayenne) with better stability & agility, fuel economy, power & performance, new AWD x-drive system, & interior & exterior design (IMO).

I work for a BMW Dealer in sales- and We will be gettin our first batch of ordered X5's in around the the 1st and 2nd week of November, with the official release right around Thanksgiving. I've got full options listing and pricing for the options.
New Pkg. for the X5 will be Tech Pkg, with Nav, PDC, and color back up camera.
Third Row Seating is also available as an option, and we are taking orders now.

DJsM3cic - care to share the options pricing? When the lease on my Cayenne S expires, the new X5 is the leading candidate for replacement.

How do you know? It is smaller than at least one of the mentioned vehicles.

Yeah it's smaller than the Q7 and bigger than the other two, but it's got a lower center of gravity.

How do I know this? I went to my local BMW dealership and asked for the low-down on the new X5 and was given a stapled 58 long page printed manual, with all the information possible on the new X5. BMW gives these manuals to the sales rep's to basically study, and not the customers.

I just got lucky.

I hope they come out with a variation that would compete with the likes of the ML63 and Cayenne Turbo.
Sort of a replacement for the 4.8is.

I'm looking for a new car.
After many years of driving sports cars and sports sedans I may actually consider a very sporty SUV --- gas prices be damned.

I'm taking a long look at the ML63 but find it still looks too much like a minivan on some angles. But then again, I've only seen it in pictures. I told my local MB dealer to call me when they get one for a test drive.

More $$$ than a Q7 3.6 quattro, with less power and less space. Not a good deal at all, but if that's the BMW sacrifiice, then a lot of people are going to make it.

Some people don't want more space.

That's not the point at all.

I love the new X5 about as much as I love the stunning Q7, but the point I was trying to get across is that the Q7 makes the X5 look overpriced. It has less space, less power and about the same amount of tech- for $7K more. It doesn't matter if someone doesn't need as much space. The Q7 is simply a better value, and supposedly, the new X5's third row is quite small.

Circa 1998, the only "luxury" SUV's were the range rover, lx470 and the new ML....people tend to forget what bmw did to the market when it came out with the X5 in 2000....it revolutionized the concept of an luxury/sport suv, creating a benchmark to be beaten...Although I am a BMW fan and owner, I also own/have driven and appreciate other luxury marks....but, from what I see this new X5 should dominate the competition - earning its mark as the premier "sport" SUV - the cayenne is a nice one too...but, this will put it to the test....

BMW3030-

"...the only 'luxury' SUV's were the range rover, lx470 and the new ML...."

And the RX300. It came out mere months after the ML and vastly outsold it.

The Cayenne is a disgrace. I'd much rather have a Touareg or a Q7- I saw an all-black Q7 4.2 and was stunned by its good looks, and I heard a Touareg V8 rip down the road the other day. The Cayenne S can easily option up to $70K+, so the others are smarter buys unless you want to pose.
