2007 Frankfurt Auto Show: 001 has dines with Chris Bangle on the verge of the next wave of premium crossover SUV's?
Imagine being invited to a dinner with Pablo Picasso or Claude Monet.

Well that’s the feeling I get being fortunate enough to spend a few hours with BMW's Chris Bangle.

Tonight, on the eve of the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show, Agent 001 had the opportunity to dine with one of our good friends, the number one change agent in autos, the amazing Chris Bangle.

Sitting at the table with Chris and hearing what we have seen and will see is a rare treat in itself.

Yea, I'm thankful for the opportunity, you do not have to ask.

Because just as AutoSpies.com has changed the automotive media landscape, so has Chris.

The guy's like a damn rock star!

When he enters the room the energy and IQ goes up 50 points.

And no matter what the automotive press says about him, they are all in AWE of this change agent.

Women want him and men want to BE him...well maybe that's more a description of 001...LOL, HAHA...you can see we love Austin Powers way too much, but it's really what it feels like when he shows his face in public.

It's the same vibe as when you're in the room with Steve Jobs or Bill Gates.

And I know them both.

Yea, it's THAT cool.

Tomorrow will be a special day when BMW rolls the X6 and a special surprise (can't tell you till the press conference tomorrow) and we WILL have the best coverage of the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Check back often and remember Frankfurt is six hours ahead, east coast time and the show opens at 8:30am Frankfurt time.

This year's full gallery is sponsored by Texaco and goes live on September 11th.

For now, just a teaser…

Don't really like 001 cause he's always too much about this website (not necessarily himself), the autospies did that or the other, when they actually only <copy & paste> news from other websites, but this time I have to say that I understand his feelings. It has to be nice to be invited to a dinner with Chris Bangle. And I wouldn't mind receiving those 50 IQ points extra, for a limited time or not.

Tell you what, I will check back at 4 am tomorrow to see if 001 got anything interesting on the menu. I start work earlier than that anyway :)

001: Please, when you take pics of interiors, shot a few of them with the lights/interior lights ON. Nobody does it.

Agent001 - resist the power of the dark side. Remember the best BMW designs in recent history were under Rietzle not Bangle - Chris is just finally working his way out of the hole he started to dig with the current 7 Series by redeeming himself with the 3 series and promising CS.

OK, the BMW X6 Concept looks better than I thought. Still looks very unpractical.

Good on ya 001!! Color me jealous!!
Love going to Germany and to be invited to dinner with such a dynamic person in the automotive industry is quite a compliment to you and the site.

Nice to know the time I put into looking at the site (and wading through the mindless haters) has great dividends.

Kudos to you...Would love to have an hour or two talking with Chris from an enthusiasts point of view. I hope you told him to put the CS Concept into production ;)!!! Have a great time.

Charisma vs. actual talent. Yes, the Picasso comparison was spot on. Actually Bangle could only dream of doing the same damage in car design that Picasso did [to the art world]. For those of you sleeping through art history...Picasso almost single-handledly ruined 20th century art so that we went from cool stuff like Van Gogh to some jerk like Pollack dripping paint on a canvas.

Bangle is not all THAT bad.

Wow T Bone that is one of the most bone-headed art history reviews I have ever read. Ask any art historian and they will tell you that he is one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
He is not my aesthetic, but stand in front of 'Guernica' in Madrid and you begin to understand the statement he was making against fascism.(One of the first artists to make statements through his work, break convention, and develop a new artistic language (Cubism). So give him credit for forging a new path, much like Bangle.

And I am sure you wouldn't refuse an original Picasso (or Pollok for that matter)...if Picasso was such a train wreck I don't think his work would be selling for hundreds of millions.

Anyway, back to autos, take a pill, drop the drama queeen act and enjoy Bangles newest creation, the X6. You need to get a little perspective mate and open those eyes a little wider...good luck with that.

I have a minor in art history, and I spent many semesters studying exactly what went wrong around the turn of the century. Even the professor that most liked Picasso told us that he was "wide, but not deep" and was superficial--and basically a jerk, personally. Compare this with the perfectionism of a Dutch still life or the angst of a Munch or a Van Gogh. In Amsterdam you can literally "ascend" through Van Gogh's life on multiple floors of his dedicated museum...in the end you are inspired and saddened at his life. And this isn't a response that had to be LEARNED through some damn audio headset of a pundit as you walk through a museum of modern art.

Bangle could never build a classic like a Z8. We'll see what designs are more popular on the concours circuit in 20, 30 years. You know what my bet is.

Art wise we will just have to agree to disagree. I love the creative mind and respect the process as well as admire the genius. I will let the secondary market decide who is "worthy" by the value collectors place on the different artists. I think you are a little to fixed in your opinions, tends to narrow the view you have.

Z8 is my favorite BMW with the 507. Just give Chris a chance bud and open those eyes.
