The Spies dial you into a real 'MONSTER' off road course at the 2007 OC Auto Show from Toyota

What happens when you build an amazing off road course with 1,000 of tons of dirt and let auto show attendees test drive Toyota 4x4 vehicles for FREE? You get a lot of very excited people kicking the tires – and kicking up a lot of dirt. Back by popular demand, the Toyota Trucks Off Road On Site Adventure is visiting 13 cities throughout the U.S., giving auto show attendees a chance to put the Toyota 4x4 Tundra, Tacoma and FJ Cruiser through their paces. It opens at the Orange County Auto Show on Thursday, October 4.

The program launched two years ago and was an instant success. Since then over 50,000 people have taken test drives and experienced Toyota vehicles first-hand. The philosophy is simple: Let people get behind the wheel and discover Toyota quality and performance on their own in a fun, no-pressure environment.

This year’s test track has been significantly enhanced to fully demonstrate the ruggedness of the Tundra, Tacoma and FJ Cruiser, and guests will drive over obstacles such as moguls, logs and berms. There is also a hill climb, wood bridge and teeter totter. A breakaway leg for the very popular FJ Cruiser features severe side berms and a rock crawl. A number of other additional enhancements will be unveiled at the Orange County Auto Show.

To drive, show-goers must be 18 or older and have a current driver's license. Minors can attend the event with a parent or legal guardian, and children can ride as passengers if they are at least 4' 9" (57 inches) tall or over 8 years old. Children 8 years and older who are not 57 inches tall may ride with proof of age (birth certificate or passport). There is no additional fee to drive or participate in the event.

The Toyota Trucks Off Road On Site Adventure will be open Thursday, October 4 and Friday, October 5, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, October 6, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 7, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event site utilizes approximately 70,000 square feet, including the course, registration tent and vehicle displays. It will take 14 workers and a lot of earth-moving equipment a full day to build the site. For more information, visit www.toyotaoffroadonsite.com.

And don't forget, the SEMA auto show is right around the corner!

GMC and Hyundai should recycle their display sets as templates for new dealership designs.

I would like all the manufacturers to have test tracks! I would like to see The Jeep Rubicon drive there test track in two wheel drive! I drove my 1993 Toyota 4-runner in 2 wheel drive on chevys test track, no problem! Chevys track utilized all of my 15in. of rear wheel travel, mainly because of my limited IFS travel. These new Toys are still princesses.
