why does everyone ignore the first tenet of environmentalism? BUY LOCAL. shipping pollutes horrendously!

to be truly environmentally friendly, informed american citizens who want to minimize their carbon footprint should buy a small 4-cylinder car from GM that gets 40+MPG, euros should buy a jetta that gets 38/46 and japanese should buy a toyota yaris or such.

if people in here are truly concerned about the environment (and not just promoting their car manufacturer of choice) they should be pressuring their LOCAL makers to use the technology they believe in. and in the meantime supporting those LOCAL makers by doing the next best thing: buying those LOCALLY produced cars.

Have you ever heard of globalization? How are all these companies supposed to find all the materials they need to produce their cars in their home countries? And good luck paying the Union workers to produce all your products, especially here.

it's actually pretty efficient, compared to the big trucks traversing back and forth over our highways, and new rules are being implemented to clean up ports all the time, like running ships on electric power while in port.

Toyota doesn't give a sh*t about the enviroment. They are only out there like every car maker to make money, so don't trick yourselves. But doesn't mean they shouldn't build it, because it's a step in the right direction.
