2008 Buick LaCrosse Super & Lucerne Super
Having successfully launched Cadillac's v-series cars, a few nice Pontiac GXP models, and several Chevy SSs, John Heinricy's GM Performance Division team has turned its attention to tuning a new breed of Buick Super models, unveiled in New York. First out of the chute will be the LaCrosse Super, on sale late this summer, powered by GM's venerable small block.
As it does in the Grand Prix GXP and Impala SS, the all-aluminum 5.3 liter V-8 sits sideways up front, routing 300 horsepower and 323 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Throttle mapping, intake and exhaust tuning are all tailored for a more relaxed and refined - but no less potent - power delivery. Upsized brakes, an inch larger in front, 0.3-inch in back rein in that power, and Bilstein monotube struts and shocks improve body motion control with minimal degradation of ride quality....

Buick,
Take the 3.9L pushrod engine and make this the standard for both vehicles (the engine with AFM (DOD)). Take the 5.3L pushrod (with AFM) and make it the up-market model which currently is powered with the Northstar V8. Cheaper, simpler, and easier built engines that save fuel.
Interiors should be upgraded a bit to (offer Navigation with all vehicles --All GM for that matter).
Projector beams in front and LED's in the tail for the Lucerne.
Priced (base): just under 30K (for the Lucerne)
This would be a killer combination for the Lucerne.

GM blew it again!
4 sp auto trans? Give me a f----g break! GM, this is 2007, not 1995. I know GM has developed a new 6 sp trans, where is it? In 2000, I bought a BMW 3 series w/ a 5 sp auto. It made the car, without it I wouldn't have bought it. I guess GM thinks the 62 yr old retirees in Naples, Florida won't care.

"the all-aluminum 5.3 liter V-8 sits sideways up front, routing 300 horsepower and 323 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission."
There was absolutley nothing good about that sentence.
V8 and FWD! Are they mad? And a 4 speed auto! For chrissakes, RWD or no performance option!

I find them impossible to love.
It looks like an original Hyundai coupe, and I didn't like that 10 years ago either.

Relax every body this platform needs to finish out is life span, i'm sure the next ALL NEW buick sedan will be RWD. This is just a refreshening, remember that, when was the last time a refreshening changed a car from FMD to RWD.

Can a Buick get any uglier? what happen to the Riveria? that was a nice car. The two cars above, hate to admitted it, it really, I mean really...."UGLY"
Even Hyundai has better looking cars than that, because they copy it design from Lexus and other leading brands. I wonder where did the American designers went to school? It is official, American make some of the Ugyliest cars.
Come on.....use some imagination when you designing your cars. No wonder everyone is buying Japanese, Korean and the German brands instead.

I think with the grills they make the car look much better. Since Buick's are known for comfort and luxury at a very economical price it some boast some sales for that market. They do look better now but haven't bothered to cater to the younger consumers. Mainly because the average age is probably 40+.

Seems like for every right thing GM does (Corvettes, trucks, Camaro, G8, Saturn) they come along with something dull and/or ugly. If they keep this up pretty soon Buick is gonna wind up where Oldsmobile went. What happened to that Velite concept they had?

The average age of a Buick buyer is in the 70s, they are simply building what the buyer base wants. Hopefully they die off soon though, these are not the best looking of cars.

Leave it to GM to put a V8 in a FWD land yacht.

Buick, the whole thing including the name just reeks of old out of date, boring, third world, bad memories of past GM junk, in other words either they scrap what they are doing and start over or get the heck out of business. Nobody wants to be reminded of the ripoff days and poor service of these Motown relic companies, unless you are 75 and senile nobody cares about Buick or the like?
