2008 DETROIT AUTO SHOW: The Spies Pick The Top 12 Cars That Stole the Show
001 just wrapped up the 2008 Detroit Auto Show and now is off to Europe for another hot review. But we wanted to share some shots of what we think are the best cars and concepts of the show.

Take a look at our choices, and then look through the gallery and tell us if we actually picked the best twelve cars below or  if we maybe if we left some out all together.

I agree, the two Toyotas are bland as hell.... nothing of interest there... just a Jacked-up Camry wagon that one thing is.... Now that Cadillac Coupe WOW!!!!!! Sign me up!

To GoObama...

Fisker is already producing cars. They are established in Europe, I'm surprised you haven't heard of them. They are a European firm that outfits Mercedes SL Roadsters and BMW 6 series coupes/convertibles with custom body work, wheels, engine and suspension tuning, custom hand crafted interior, etc.

Mechanically, the cars are BMWs or MBs, so it's not like you're buying from some start-up company. It's not comparable to a Delorean at all. Fisker is sort of like a Carlson or a Ruf, if you're familiar.

Spot the coincidence: two Toyotas that don't deserve to be included on the list and every photo is sponsored by one of Toyota's subsidiaries.

"but the LFA is much more elegant and sophisticated looking, while still sexy and fast. "

WRONG. Look beyond the light clusters; the R8's actual body shape is much more elegant, well-shaped and distinctive. From certain angles, the LF-A's side profile looks a bit like a huge jelly bean.

I really like the LF-A, but I cannot say it looks better than the R8.

Lamborghini is owned by Audi/VW you moron. That's a large company. Ferrari is owned by Fiat. Another large company.

Furthermore, how exactly are these cars relics? Lamborghini just posted its best year EVER and is set to release a car that retails for $1.4 million.

New Ferraris are nearly impossible to get. Even if you have the money, there is a two year waiting list for new cars. Ferrari's profit margins exceed those of Toyota.

The LF-A and GTR promise to be great perfomers, but their primary selling point is value, compared to Lambo or Ferrari. People still desire and aspire to the real thing. The LFA hasn't even been released yet.

If you know as much about politics as you do about cars, then you are doing Senator Obama a tremendous disservice by using your wit (or lack thereof) to champion his cause.

Dumbass.

Please back up the deboosts. Im guessing though they're mainly from uneducated , non-projective people. No words need to be said about audi. They are definately going to lead the industry in this decade and beyond. Prime examples of the future can already hold up as evidence, one step ahead of the other germans. Audi was always about envisionment and contemporary sophistication, unlike the other counter-cars.

Mr. Daharder, Huh?

Are you thick? Porsche is still a low-volume company, no matter how much money they have. They are only extremely profitable.

BMW is still a luxury automaker. They are just like Porsche, but on a larger scale.

Ok, I might be a little biased but I like the BMWs. I think that the X6 looks great and can't wait to see it in black. The only problem that I have with it is that you can only fit 2 people in back. That puts it out of my market with 3 kids and I already have a good SUV (CX-9).

The 135i is also great and that would be a replacement to my daily driver. The packaging for that car is outstanding for the performance that you get.

I like the Land Rover, for its aggressive styling and for what the company is trying to do to revive its image and become more sporty.

As a person that has never like Cadillacs, that coupe really looks good, and would look mean as hell in black. I wonder if they are testing that on the 'Ring' like they did their sedan. Will it beat the BMW 335? Who knows but it would be fun to find out.

Go Venza. Haters. The title of the thread was ...STOLE the show. Not best looking, not fastest or most exclusive or best concept. This car came out of nowhere (granted there had been plenty of rumors), broke open the small-midized CUV segment, and put Toyota even closer to world domination. It belongs on the list. Likewise the A-BAT, for a lot of the same reasons.

Does Toyota pay you? If not, you should calm down. Why does their success excite you so much? It's supposed to be about the cars, man. Exciting, visceral cars. Not boring "small-midsized CUVs" Why does that excite you?

Drop Dead.

Once again, someone without anything productive to add the conversation resorts to personal attacks.

I make no bones about my love for Toyota. I do not disguise it, apologize for it, or use it to knock other brands.

When Toyota comes out with amazing new products like the Venza and A-BAT concept, Autospies lights up with venomous attacks on Toyota. I will be a voice of reason throughout, expressing my opinions regarding the brand, not based on emotional outcries, but on solid evidence.

"Exciting, visceral cars" indeed. The problem with this site is that too many posters try to push their own vision of what a real car enthusiast is down other people's throats. So let's have no posts on anything other than muscle cars, European exotics and aspirational toys that only 5% of the public is buying. Let's just ignore the importance and worthiness of everything else. No more posts about Tundras, Malibus, CR-Vs. Hallelujiah.

You're right, and the Venza did NOT.

It is an attractive, uninteresting new crossover. Everybody else has been releasing cars just like it. It's nothing new, nothing special. People weren't flocking to the Toyota booth get a look at THE SEXY NEW VENZA!!!

I know that by calling someone a lady you intend to be disrespecting them, but it only speaks to your ignorance, immaturity, misogyny and lack of intelligence. As in this enlightened age we know that a woman is equal to a man, that is no insult, and were I of the kind to resort to ad hominem attacks when I run out of logical arguments or points of view, I would undoubtedly call you a neaderthal for thinking that would work as an insult.

How do we know which cars are on the list, they all say LX 570. The Toyota crossover is beyond ugly, I guess those Lexus sponsorship dollars carry some extra weight in the selection process. The CTS coupe is the real star of the show.
