2008 Ford Focus ST goes on sale from May 1
Ford finally made the announcement: the 2008 Ford Focus ST will officially go on sale at dealerships across Great Britain from May 1. Powered by a 2.5 liter engine developing 225 hp, the new ST is pushed from 0-100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h. This sort of achievement requires more than just brute power and the Focus ST remains one of the sharpest handling cars in its class.

In fact, the ST may well be the definitive choice for enthusiastic drivers who also demand comfort around town and an array of subtle suspension enhancements ensures this is still the case.

Suhweet. There was an article in the latest issue of Fortune magazine that said Ford's next gen U.S. Focus (due out in 2011) will actually be the same as Europe's Focus. Maybe a U.S. version of the ST will also debut. I got a special spot in my heart for high performance economy cars.

Let's first worry about our economy. Many foreign companies are reconsidering the US. Thank you US govt.

Yup, many foreign companies are reconsidering why they don't have a plant in the US. There might be some silver lining to the economy after all.

And in any case, what do foreign companies have to do with this article? We're discussing bringing this car from an American manufacturer into America.

Did you know that Mitsu is exporting more than 100k cars a year FROM the US to Russia?

Our weak currency is helping companies decide to build factories here. I'm not saying it's good to have a weak dollar (look at oil prices), but I'm not saying it's 100% bad either.

I think our economy is better than people give it credit.

Why can't we get 60mpg performance vehicles like Europe? The answer is that we lag behind making decisions on the environment and pleasing every other A-hole except the consumer. We need economical vehicles right now, not 3-5 years when we are all broke.

60 mpg performance vehicles don't really exist, even in Europe. 40 mpg, there are some, but not at 60 mpg.
