2008 Geneva Auto Show: The Infiniti FX Breaks Cover
Infiniti today revealed the all- new 2009 Infiniti FX performance luxury crossover in conjunction with the Geneva Motor Show. The second-generation FX, with its fusion of sports car and SUV design, will be offered in three models, including a new 5.0-liter V8- equipped Infiniti FX50. The 2009 FX is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti dealers in the United States and Canada in June 2008.
The new FX's world debut in Geneva was hosted by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Carlos Ghosn, who also announced details of Infiniti's plans to enter the Western European market in the last quarter of 2008.
About the 2009 Infiniti FX
The all-new second-generation Infiniti FX is designed to offer exceptional levels of power, refinement, safety and driving exhilaration. Created as a fusion of sports car and SUV utility, with head-turning styling and an advanced sports sedan platform, the new FX is a showcase of Infiniti's design and technology leadership.
Along with its dramatic, aerodynamic body structure and sporty FM Front Midship) platform, the new FX features an extensive list of available equipment and technology designed to create an exciting and rewarding driving experience -- including a new 390-horsepower 5.0-liter 32-valve DOHC V8 or advanced V6 engine (V6 details to be released later), 7-speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control and available
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.
The new Infiniti FX also offers a wide range of available safety technologies, including:
-- Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA), which provides forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking
-- Lane Departure Warning/Lane Departure Prevention system, which help keep the vehicle in its travel lane
-- Intelligent Cruise Control (Full Speed Range), maintains a pre-set distance with the vehicle ahead at speeds between 0-90 mph
-- And the industry's first application of Distance Control Assist (DCA), which helps reduce the stress of driving in heavy traffic by intuitively helping to release the throttle and apply the brakes to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead
The 2009 Infiniti FX's trademark performance characteristics are enhanced with a refined 4-wheel independent suspension and large 4-wheel disc brakes with available opposed-piston brake calipers. A new, available FX Sport Package includes a Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension, Rear-Active Steer and 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.
Inside, the new FX interior provides a warm, modern, inviting environment highlighted by a driver-oriented cockpit with available sport seating and advanced audio, navigation and entertainment systems including an 11- speaker Bose(R) audio system, Infiniti Intelligent Key and Around View Monitor system.

WHAT DID THEY DO TO THE FRONT OF MY FX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The front is an interesting move. It in fact reminds me of the big gulp of GT-R. While in GT-R it looks very purposeful and implied the big horsepower, it doesn't seem to work for a luxury SUV. The hood is also flatter, probably to accommodate the new 5.0 engine.
Overall, I prefer the interior change to exterior change.

Love the instrument panel. Hate the 6-spoke wheels (5-bolt wheels should have 5 spokes for symmetry. What's up with the big wings on the seat cushions?
Nissan makes great engines. I'm glad their Infiniti brand does not use the dreaded CVT.
This vehicle looks like it has fairly low-profile tires which promises a harsher ride than I'm looking for.

These are the same comments when then FX came out in '03! Yet it revolutionized the way SUVs look today. It was a look that over time grew on most. Now every SUV has little FX in them as one looks around!!!
That said I think Infiniti was shooting for a design that is not easily forgettable and will grow on people as time goes!!!
Time will tell if that is what will happen. I personally think it WILL!

Looks VERY good! They took an evolutionary, rather than revolutionary approach when redesigning this one. I'd agree. Why mess with success?

Anybody else see more than a hint of Maserati GranTurismo in the front lights and grill?

This doesn't look good.
The interior is an improvement. It looks nice, much better than the current interior.
But the styling outside is a mess. It looks like the current FX with an unnecessary dose of weird tacked on the front and rear end.
It looks like they're trying to create some visual connection with the GT-R. It looks awful, but it would at least make some type of sense if the GT-R was an Infiniti.

I definitely like it. Nice to see the evolutionary update to a segment they pretty much created. It's nice to also see something different looking than everyone else and you can definitely distinguish it from the EX! Nice updates inside and out...and the features too! If it was a good fit in my family's lifestyle, it would be in our garage!!!

Nice evolution of the FX. It looks really mean, with an attitude. The interior is a huge improvement. Lately, Infiniti has been doing great interiors, better than the competition.
This looks so much better than that turd on 4-wheels called the BMW X6.

how is this attractive? Funny, you criticize bangle designs for BMW and then compliment this as" revolutionary " . huh? what is so " revolutionary "?
In regards to the X6, have you actually seen it in person? I didnt think so. But yet you want to compare the X6 by saying it is bloated and the FX is mean with attitude. Actually, infiniti is for the people who cant afford a BMW. AKA . new FX50 ..

Take a deep breath, and step away from the keyboard for a moment.
I never said that new FX was "revolutionay", I said "evolution". Do you know the difference between the two? If not, look it up.
I never said that the X6 was "bloated", that was a Freudian slip on your part. Now I really know, deep inside how you feel about the X6, you think it's bloated and you are right.

With the exception of the S, SL, and CL models, BMW's are generally more expensive than their Mercedes-Benz competitors. The 3 series and 5 series are cost more than comparitively equipped C-classes and E-classes.

The interior used a wood down on the base of the center console (by the gear selector) and a black something or other up around the controls. How is this better materials? Too many textures used. Looks like crap.

The leather looks like it has more quality. Usually Infiniti leathers look like they're 50% plastic mixed with 50% leather rather than full leather. But this looks nice. It's like the EX interior and the EX has a great interior.

I think you are slightly confused mate.
The FX competes directly with the X5. They are aimed at the same people. The EX competes directly with the X3.
Infiniti has nothing that competes with the X6.
The next step up for the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord consumer is the BMW 3-Series.

well Teknik the next step up for the camry, and accord buyers would NATURALLY be a ES350, and TL. Not sure why the japanese fans push the issue of trashing the 3 series as something down market. The 335i cost as much as a v8 FX, a V6 M or V8M, and a 328i is as much as a FX35 not to mention its best in class. but illogical fans aside......i really like this new FX the Fx has always been one of 3 suvs that i can honestly say i like(not much of an suv person) The interior is most impressive a huge improvement over the last one, and the car overall looks alot like the outgoing model but very modern, more aggresive, and a bit more avant garde. It doesnt win a beauty contest but it makes a statement i love it

The old FX had the best looking wheels of any japanese vehicle. The new ones are plainly ugly and unbalanced. The ugly front grill was the main drawback of the old FX, and the new one is an improvement. However, why couldn't the designers have stayed with an EX like grill, which is much more attractive. Please? Infiniti is never going to beat Lexus in quality, so they had better concentrate on their designs!

Man this was such a great vehicle what happened? The front is fugly and the side scoops (looks out of place) besides that I guess it's okay. I don't care to much from the interior, looks very compact for a mid-size SUV, no? Um I'd have to take an '08 over this one. Great engine & horsepower thou, I think it might be best in class next to the Mercedes-Benz ML550 with 382hp. I'm sure Infiniti will still sell well with this new FX regardless of how it looks.
