G35 is also the smallest .. trunk space of 7.4 cu ft. huh? The SLK hardtop conv has a larger stowage compartment. The car is a good looking car, it is fast, handles well, but in regards to size and space it would do better to compete with the Z4 coupe rather than the 335 coupe. That is where the G35 loses in value for the money.

Are you serious? you make a sport car loses in value because of couple of cubic inches in the trunk space? loool
Boy do you know about cars then!

designer .. The G37 was revamped to compete directly with the 335 coupe. So wouldnt you think it would have been wise to better maximize the cars overall potential? The G37 has a wheelbase which is 112" long vs the 335 108", G37 is 183" long vs 335 is 180" ... So why then does the G37 have 7.4 cu ft of trunk space vs the 15 cu ft the 335 has? Why is there 4" less rear seat leg room and 2" less head room? That is alot of wasted space by infiniti due to long over hangs of the hood and the trunk. Personally, if I want a true sports car as you so simply put it, I would not buy a G' anything. Porsche, BMW, corvette, audi, alfa, peugot come to mind before I would ever buy a g. If space is not an issue, why would anyone choose a G37? It isnt even as fast as the 335, doesnt brake as well, and doestn have the ability to produce great cornering . It does well in the slalom, due to the 4was.

My experience about car and sports cars. I have worked for BMW for 12 years, owned 6 of them. ANything from a 1996 M3 to the new 535i I just picked up. My friend runs bimmer.info in chicago and holds events in chicago for BMW owners and enthusiasts. My other friend grew up racing sports cars from formula 2000, to toyota/atlantic, to IRL ... The " G " is not a true sports car or what I would consider as one. The M3, RS4, boxster s, cayman s, 911, M Z4 coupe are sports cars. The " g " is a wannabee. Hell the wrx has more potential than the g37 does.

Can I assume that the G37 can be ordered with a conventional automatic transmission instead of the dreade CVT? the VLSD is better than an open rear differential but I'd rather have a Torsen. 4-wheel steering is a needless complexity. Other than that, it's a nice machine and a good looker. Nissan makes some of the best engines.

its just so sad seeing people so biased and saying a car is a wannabee. a true enthusiast will appreciate what the car can offer and advice on what can be improved or comment on things that maybe help in making it better. see I myself am an enthusiast and would say that even Hyundai is getting better. it may not beat the others but considering its humble beginning, its something. it may copy this it may copy that but who doesn't copy nowadays under the sun in terms of design, style, technology (improving it a bit) etc. I just don't understand why people call it wannabee where in fact those "wannabees" are changing the rules of the game.

sl55 maybe you did not read what I posted. Designer 1 made a comment suggesting that I do not know about sports cars. read before you write. I would not consider the G37 a true sports car. The car did fantastic in the slalom. 71.5 mph is fast. Then it lagged far behind in the performance aspect of it, 0 to 60, 1/4 mile, braking & skidpad. Look at all the tests, edmunds, motortrend, road & track. In all the tests the G37 out handled the BMW in the slalom, but then proceeded to be slower to 60, thru the 1/4 with a slower trap speed, not brake as well, & do as well on the skid pad. Granted the G37 costs less, but it is also alot smaller too. It has half the trunk space, and 5 cu ft smaller in the interior volume dept.

I DO READ BEFORE I WRITE and the funny thing is you keep on saying YOU DON'T CONSIDER THE G37 Coupe as a TRUE SPORTS CAR nor CONSIDER AS ONE but in REALITY IT IS NOT A SPORTS CAR AT ALL and IT WILL NEVER BE!!!!!! It is a Luxury Tourer and since when did a RS4 became a sports car? RS4 = Sport Sedan = YES.

The following comes from someone who has owned an X5 and currently owns a 7-series and a G37. I have also taken multiple 335i coupe test drives.

Neither the G nor the 3 series are sports cars, they are grand tourers.
Motortrend and Road and track compared the G37 and the 335i. Both agreed the G37 is a better pick. Comparing the G37 to an M3 or a 911 or an M Z4 is retarded, stick to the 3 series.

I will agree with you that the 3 series cars have slightly better handling than the G. It's a close call though, and the slalom helps to indicate that.

As far as pure speed goes, the G37 is much faster than its cost equivalent, the 328i, and .2 seconds slower in the 0-60 than the 335i; keep in mind, though, this car is about $7,000 more than a G37. If the G37 came with real tires, it would probably be an even closer competition.

As I said, they are no sports cars, they are GT's. As such, if you were only concerned about speed you would get an evo or something of the like, so there are other things that matter.

Most agree that the G37 interior is more attractive and comfortable (exterior attractiveness is a toss-up), and it is loaded with more features, and far more standard features than a 3-series. The G37 is a bit more scrunched together but it makes up for it with other things. Room is unlikely to be a problem (I have fit four ~6' men in my G37 comfortably, and if you need trunk space, just knock the bench seatback down). Also, the G37 computer interface is FAR better than the horrid BMW interface.

From a luxury standpoint, the G37 takes it. From a performance standpoint, the 335 takes it, but for the G37's cost equivalent, the 328, the G37 would beat it there too.

Ignoring price, it's a toss-up: all depending on whether you prefer speed or luxury/features.
Once you factor in the significant price difference, there is no competition--the G37 takes it by far. Or, if you want to compare the G37 to its price equivalent, the 328, the G is just straight up a better car--it performs better and is more luxurious. There is really no reason to get the 335i, if you are really THAT concerned about speed, get a straight up sports car--or if you are rich enough to throw away the money to get a 3 instead, just get a GT-R or something.
