2008 Infiniti M45X
Good news for impatient readers in wintry climates everywhere: the ultraquick Infiniti M45 is now available with all-wheel drive. The new M45x joins the M35x in Infiniti’s M model line.
The all-wheel drive models are powered by the same engines as their rear-wheel-drive siblings, a 275-hp V6 for the M35 and a beefier 325-hp V8 for the M45.

The entire range, which debuted in the 2006 model year, is also getting a minor freshening for 2008. Changes include new bumpers, fenders, taillights, and a modified grille. The interior is filled with all of the usual luxury car trappings.

An optional sport package is available on all models. The package includes 19-inch wheels, a rear active steer system, and unique trim pieces.

Does this qualify as the only all wheel drive mid size sport sedan?

I think is a very nice car. I would take one of these before I would take a Lexus. The addition of the all wheel drive ( thumbs down for mimicking BMW's "X") puts this in a special category.

This should do well for Infiniti

huh? Lexus GS350 AWD, BMW 528xi/535xi, Mercedes E350/430/550 4MATIC, etc. Do those not count?

sorry and the Audi A6 models, forgot those. Those are all considered " midsize luxury sport sedans".

Since we're being precise JRob, there is no E430 4Matic currently. And out of all these cars, I'd still say only the E550 4matic and A6 4.2 are its competition. Would I take this Infiniti over either one of those? No.

what do you know Will, we agree, neither would I.

The M45x's direct competition would be the Audi A6 4.2 quattro and Lexus GS450h. Those are the only other two with V8 AWD setups (V6 + electricity in the GS's case).

I like the M45. It has a striking exterior design with a very unique interior design. However I just can't fathom purchasing one over anything else in its class for the money.

The Mercedes E550 4MATIC is a direct competitor, and if we're including GS450h V6 + electric motor as a V8 then I'd say the 535xi is competition too since it offers V8 performance out of I6 and twin turbos.

Of course the GS450h is REAR drive, not all-wheel drive, so it doesn't compete anyway.

My mistake. I had the LS600h in my head, which is AWD.

And since the GS450h is out of the picture, so is the 535xi...

of course the 535xi and Lexus GS350 AWD are both likely to be as quick or quicker than the M45x, so they COULD be considered competitors even still. C&D had the GS350 AWD at 5.3 0-60 and 13.8 1/4 mile, identical to the rear drive M45 (and to the GS450h). The 535xi hadn't been tested yet but I'd expect similar results.

I would buy a E500 AMG 4Matic over this car. I simply don't like it, the car wants to be a BMW in every aspect. Create your own damn personality. I would even buy a 530xd over this thing.

Quality materials too. A real milestone for Infiniti when it came out a couple years ago. If they can take this level of quality up a significant notch when developing the new Q, it might have a fighting chance this time....but it needs a V10 or V12 to entice buyers. If there is a Japanese company that can engineer an engine like that, I'd put my money on Nissan first...but do they have the money in R&D for it? Probably not. Looks like the TT V6 is their next big thing for now...

I don't care for Infiniti, but the M is one hell of a car. making V8 with all-wheel drive will definetly help it's sales, there are not too many companies offering V8'S with all-wheel drive.

It may take sales from prospective RL buyers, the few that there are.

The great is wonderful, I'm sure it is but why the heck have not upgraded the engines (The new G35 V-6 make over 300hp) and why continue to stick with 5 speed auto when the rest of the autoworld have moved on beyond 5-speed?
